Color-rectum cancer, in Lazio every year 5300 new cases

In Lazio there are about 5300 new cases of colon-rectum cancer every year, with 1600 deaths at the time. The regions where survival is greater are those of the center and the north, equal to 70% of survival, while in the south, where c ’ it is less attention to screening and early diagnosis is less frequent, it is lower. By carrying out early tests, promptly finding benign polyps and initial tumors, you can reduce mortality from 20%.

One million new cases of colon and rectum cancer in the world every year. In 2015 only in Italy 52 thousand cases were diagnosed, and in 2012 19 thousand deaths were counted, with 54% in men. In men, in fact, c ’ it is a greater incidence of colon cancer, with about +10%.

In women the first tumor is that of the breast, in the prostate man, but if we calculate both sexes the most recurrent tumor is precisely the colon one.

The project – At Villa Pia at “ via ” A project to raise awareness of prevention and screening. The recipients of the project are men and women aged between 50 and 85, asymptomatic, who will be subjected to the test of the faecal occult blood (Fob Test). A specific kit for the exam will be delivered by the services of the Villa Pia Clinic upon presentation of demanding and payment payment.

“ Strong emerges the need to network and system between public and private for the citizen. Our intention is to involve the basic doctors more, underlining how important their figure is for the patient's first orientation in the first orientation – concludes Daniela Bottari, promoter of the Sole Initiative and Administrator of Villa Pia – In the conference toWe will be the theme of interdisciplinarity and collaboration between general medicine specialists and doctors. As part of our screening project for symptomatic patients, positive for occult blood test or who, on the indication of the attending physician, need a diagnostic study.

Clinic Villa Pia reserves the possibility of carrying out endoscopic tests (gastroscopy and/or colonoscopy also in deep sedation) at facilitated rates and quickly ”.

What are the screening – Making a screening is fundamental: at the moment the techniques used are the search for occult blood, colonoscopy, virtual colonoscopy. Colonoscopy is the examination that offers the greatest guarantees of diagnostic reliability, both for specificity and sensitivity, and allows export of precancerous injuries, such as those of the polyps. The virtual colonoscopy carried out with TAC offers some advantages, such as that of not being invasive, but unfortunately the costs are still high and does not always allow to reveal the polyps below 5 mm.

“ the search for occult blood in the stool – explains Pier Luigi Pallotto Responsible gastroenterologist of the u.OR. of digestive endoscopy – It serves in advance to identify the share of patients for whom colonoscopy must be mandatory. Out of one hundred patients perform this technique, five report positive cases: a figure that must not alarm, because it can be justified by the presence of hemorrhoids or blood losses caused by other pathologies. In any case, it is recommended to deepen immediately with the other screening tests, without passing further time ”.

Who are patients – All the people who have had cases of colonctic cancer in the family especially in youth age (before 65 years) are subjects on whom the attention must be concentrated. Beyond the instrumental investigations, it is important to recommend a correct lifestyle, therefore eat many fibers or avoid the use of some foods that can facilitate the formation of dysplasias, often antechamber of neoplasms.

“ we are talking about one of the most frequent pathology in the oncological field – he claims Dr. Pier Luigi Bartoletti Roman Secretary Fimmg MMG (Italian Federation of Medical General Medicine)together with lung, breast and prostate cancer. It is one of those pathologies that has seen the number of years of life grow a lot from the moment of diagnosis. If first the prognosis of colon-recto cancer was inauspiciously inamed-on-term, today there are people who heal it, always on condition to identify it immediately.”

The data in Lazio – “In Lazio declare Dr. Massimiliano Mungo, Peer. U.OR. General surgery Every year there are about 5300 new cases of this tumor, with 1600 deaths in the year.

The aim of our project is to offer the citizen's possibility to perform controls promptly and any surgical therapies with advanced technologies with qualified doctors. A quick and effective removal affects not only on patient health, but also on the cost of health, reducing both private and public expenditure.

In our general surgery department we have gained a wide experience in the treatment of colo-rectal tumors with conventional techniques, both in laparoscopy and with invasive mini surgery with extremely satisfactory clinical results that we consider it important to make available to the community with this prevention project.
